What is the Greater Newark Holiday Fund?
The Greater Newark Holiday Fund is a 72-year-old, registered 501C(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping families in crisis during the holiday season. It makes an annual appeal for donations to support the work of 12 social service agencies in the northern New Jersey area. These agencies provide financial assistance and vital services to the less fortunate.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. A donation to the Greater Newark Holiday Fund may be used as a charitable deduction on your income tax, subject to normal guidelines and regulations. Consult your tax adviser for more information.

Our mission is to help families in crisis regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or country of origin. The Fund’s partner agencies deliver social services and direct assistance to people of all ages, from children in need of foster care or adoptive homes to the elderly who require assistance in their daily lives. We serve the economically disadvantaged, mentally or physically challenged, victims of crime or violence, military families, and others who need a helping hand.

Where will my donation be used?
The Greater Newark Holiday Fund supports social services in six New Jersey counties: Essex, Union, Passaic, Hudson, Morris, and Bergen.

Each has a long history of effective, cost-efficient aid to individuals and families. A full list is available under Agencies Supported.

How much of my donation goes to the social service agencies?
On average over 90% of the total raised by the Greater Newark Holiday Fund goes to our agency partners. As you can see, we keep our administrative costs to a minimum.

Why doesn’t the Fund operate year-round?
The holidays are a season of giving, when people open their hearts to the needs of others in a special way. We believe our holiday appeal is the most effective way of focusing their attention on the less fortunate. In addition, the Fund gives our partner agencies additional resources when they need it most, at the end of the year when the cold creates greater hardships and budgets are ending.

What is the deadline for donations to the Fund?
Donations to the 2009-2010 Greater Newark Holiday Fund may be made through January 17, 2010.
